Glass Blowing

So today we went to Urban Glass in Brooklyn. I've been waiting a long time for this. First I want to say that we did not get to make any glass, BUT it was still amazing to watch! It looked like glowing honey. Our instuctor made a bead, later on we watched two artists making a bowl with a clear glass fish. It took a long long long long long time to make the bowl it was sort of purple and red and with the fish it was a work of art :)

This photo is the small ball of lava.
They have to keep twirling and blowing to keep it's shape. Then they keep reheating and shaping, and blowing. It is about an hour process.
This photo is of the finished bowl with the glass fish melted onto it. We couldn't get a good picture because they had to run off and put it into a 1000 degree oven to cool. THe fire they were working with was 4,700 degrees!!!! While we sat and watched our faces lit up and the fire made our cheeks red, like a sun burn. We wore protective glassses to protect our eyes. This was an amazing experience. I can't wait to make my very own!!!!!!!!!!!
